What we organise

Two ways to develop as a coach.

Activate arranges the courses, venues and logistics locally. The course content and standards come from ASCA.

ASCA courses

We organise and facilitate access to coach-education courses from the American Swimming Coaches Association, delivered under ASCA’s own approved framework. ASCA is an independent body; Activate is the local organiser.

Levels 1 & 2, and Levels 3, 4 & 5

Observation & mentoring

Coach trainees spend time on deck observing sessions and working with experienced coaches, so what they learn on a course is tied to real sessions with real swimmers.

The levels

From foundations to programme leadership.

Courses run in two blocks: Levels 1 & 2 cover the foundations; Levels 3, 4 & 5 are for experienced coaches moving into planning and leadership.

Levels 3, 4 & 5 Advanced

Five ASCA coach-education levels, grouped as Levels 1 and 2 (foundations) and Levels 3, 4 and 5 (advanced).

  1. Level 1

    Foundations of coaching

    Foundations

    Core coaching principles, safety awareness, communication habits, and teaching the fundamentals with confidence.

  2. Level 2

    Stroke school

    Foundations

    The mechanics of the competitive strokes, including starts, turns and finishes, and how to spot and correct technical errors.

  3. Level 3

    Physiology & training

    Advanced

    Turning sports science into effective workouts, season plans and planned performance peaks, with clearer control over training intent.

  4. Level 4–5

    Leadership & programme development

    Advanced

    Leadership, programme management and the advanced frameworks needed to develop swimmers, and the systems around them, over the long term.

What completion means

Course completion and certification are not the same thing.

Completing the course
You attend and take part in an ASCA course organised by Activate, covering the content for your level.
Certification
Certification is awarded by ASCA, not by Activate. ASCA sets its own requirements for each level, and they may go beyond attending the course. Check ASCA’s current requirements for your level before you enrol.
Our part
We organise the course locally, handle registration and logistics, and answer your questions along the way.
